Not many people realize that
Nunchucks originated in Southeast Asia sometime around the 17th Century. The earliest versions of this weapon were actually made by connecting the heads of a nun and game show host
Chuck Woolery together with a heavy chain or thick cord. The weapon was then swung (or chucked) around the user's body in great sweeping motions (sometimes knowns as the "Back In 2 and 2" movement).
After finding out that it was a bit too awkward and unwieldy twirling a sturdy nun and bass fishing enthusiast Chuck Woolery around during the heat of battle, the handles were soon switched over to the more conventional wood handles that we see today.
