> History #24: The Viet Wrong (or Alpaca Lips Now)
I definitely had my 'Nam phase during my time in grade school. Tour of Duty was one of my favorite television shows (with the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black" as the theme song – two words "awe" and "some") and Apocalypse Now was the BEST movie to watch over and over and over (Marlon Brando as Colonel Kurtz is the shiiiit). I had actually taped the movie Platoon on cassette and memorized the entire dialogue just for fun. Uh....what the hell was wrong with me???
Humor, Horror, and Heavy Metal: Here's a 'Nam guy in the bushes with a big fucking knife, a gun, and a bandana.
After watching so many Vietnam War movies, I almost thought that I was the one having FLASHBACKS. Seeing that I was only about 2 years old by the time the war was completely over, this may have been a bit difficult to achieve. Hell, the only Flashbacks I was having at the time were from the awful 'bouts of the squirts I would occasionally get from the school cafeteria food. Not quite the same as coming back to the States traumatized from combat (but the stuff they served as "Meatloaf" in school came REAL close... my ass is still puckering even thinking about it).
